About Dr. Meathrel

Dr. Meathrel is a certified Plastic Surgeon by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She completed her 4 year undergraduate degree in Biology at Queen’s University and finished first in her class with the university gold medal. She then completed medical school at Queen’s University and graduated with awards in both Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Dr Meathrel went on to complete her 5 year residency training in Plastic Surgery at McMaster University, winning research awards, research grants, and resident of the year. She received her specialist certification in Plastic Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 2005, followed by a burn trauma fellowship at the Ross Tilley Burn Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. She also completed dedicated training in cosmetic plastic surgery with Dr Lloyd Carlsen in Toronto, who is widely-regarded as the father of Canadian cosmetic plastic surgery.

 

Dr. Meathrel returned to Kingston in 2006 and has worked for the past 17 years serving Kingston and the surrounding communities providing skin cancer treatment, hand and facial trauma, elective body contouring and cosmetic procedures including lasers, injectables, hair transplants and surgical facial rejuvenation

 

Dedicated to life-long learning, in 2018 Dr Meathrel received her Masters of Science in Bioethics from Albany Medical College in New York state and in 2019 her Juris Doctorate (JD) from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University. Dr. Meathrel recently received an award from the American College of Legal Medicine for her work on the legal and ethical issues surrounding female genital mutilation.

Dr. Meathrel  earned her executive MBA in 2022.

 

Dr. Meathrel is a busy mother of three children and actively involved in the Kingston community through volunteer work with the Kingston Ice Wolves and is member of the Board of Directors of the local non profit organization, The Judgement of Kingston. Dr. Meathrel is also board certified in Ringside Medicine and works with the Ontario Athletic Commission caring for combat sports athletes. She is an active member of the Association of Ringside Physicians and recognized by her colleagues for her knowledge and caring of female athletes particularly focusing on the Female Athlete Triad.
